The Google AI Overviews tracker for brand visibility in Google's AI answers
A Google AI Overviews tracker checks, on a fixed set of buyer queries run repeatedly, whether Google's AI Overview names your brand and links your pages. AI Overviews reach 2.5B+ monthly users, follow-up questions now continue in AI Mode, and Search Console reports only impressions for both, so a tracker is how you see what the answer actually says. SolCrys captures the AI Overview for each tracked prompt on Starter ($99/mo), Pro, and Custom; the free workspace covers ChatGPT only. Start Free

Direct answer
A Google AI Overviews tracker measures whether Google's AI-generated answers name your brand and link your pages for the queries your buyers run. Google has two AI surfaces in Search: AI Overviews, the AI summary shown at the top of some results pages, and AI Mode, the conversational mode for follow-up questions. Since Google I/O in May 2026, a follow-up asked from an AI Overview flows into AI Mode on desktop and mobile worldwide (Google).
Both surfaces are built on Google Search. Per Google's documentation, they are rooted in Google's core ranking and quality systems and may use query fan-out, "issuing multiple related searches across subtopics and data sources," to build a response. Your SEO is the foundation; AEO is the operating layer on top.
SolCrys tracks Google AI Overviews on Starter ($99/mo), Pro ($399/mo), and Custom. For each tracked prompt it captures the AI Overview Google shows, with its linked sources, or records that none appeared. The free workspace covers ChatGPT only.
Why Google's AI answers need their own tracker
Three reasons to measure them apart from ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini:
- They inherit your search presence, not just your rank. A page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet to appear as a supporting link, and Google says there are no additional requirements. Because fan-out searches related subtopics, a linked page doesn't have to rank for the exact query. If you rank and still aren't linked or named, the gap is in how the page answers the question.
- Clicks are scarcer. SparkToro found 68% of US Google searches ended without a click in January–April 2026 (SparkToro), and Chartbeat data shows Google Search referrals to publishers down 40.2% from July 2025 to July 2026 (Search Engine Journal). Presence inside the answer is a growing share of what's left.
- Google's own reports stop at impressions. Search Console's generative AI performance report, available for all sites since Aug. 31, 2026, shows impressions by page, country, device, and date for AI Overviews and AI Mode, but no clicks or queries (Google). GA4's AI Assistant channel excludes AI Overviews and AI Mode (Google). Neither tells you what the answer said.
How AI Overviews differ from AI Mode
Same foundations, different experiences, and a single-turn tracker sees them differently:
| Dimension | AI Overviews | AI Mode |
|---|---|---|
| Where it appears | At the top of some Google results pages, triggered automatically | A conversational mode in Google Search; follow-ups from an AI Overview flow here |
| Format | A summary with linked sources | A multi-turn conversation with linked sources |
| Scale (Google-reported) | 2.5B+ monthly users (May 2026) | 1B+ monthly users (May and July 2026) |
| How it builds answers | Google's index, core ranking systems, and query fan-out | The same foundations, plus earlier turns and, for users who opt in, Personal Intelligence |
| What a single-turn tracker captures | The Overview for the tracked query, or its absence | Not the full session; follow-ups depend on each user's conversation |
What a Google AI Overviews tracker should measure
Four signals, on the same buyer queries, run repeatedly:
- Whether an Overview appears. Not every query triggers one; which tracked prompts do shows where Google's AI answer shapes your category.
- Mention rate inside the Overview. Across repeated runs, how often is your brand named in the answer text?
- Linked-source share. Which pages does the Overview link, and how many are yours, a competitor's, or third parties'? Linked and named are different: an Overview can link your page and still recommend someone else.
- Accuracy. A 2026 study of 98,020 AI Overview claims found 11.0% were unsupported by the pages they cited (Xu, Iqbal, and Montgomery). Wrong facts about your brand are worth catching early.
What SolCrys measures on Google AI Overviews
Google has no public API for AI Overviews, so SolCrys captures them from the results page: each tracked prompt runs as a Google search from the workspace's market country, daily or weekly, and SolCrys stores the Overview's text and linked sources. A search with no Overview is recorded as such, not as an error. Plans list this engine as Google AI Overviews; the app labels it Google AI Overview.
| What you see | What it tells you | Where in SolCrys |
|---|---|---|
| Mention rate and share-of-voice ranking | How often the Overview names you across runs, and your rank among tracked competitors | Visibility, filtered to Google AI Overview |
| Linked sources by domain and URL | Which pages the Overview links, grouped as Owned, Competitor, Editorial, UGC, or Other | Citations |
| Citation - Mentions You | The share of linked pages that mention your brand | Visibility and Citations |
| Recommendation Score | A 0–100 favorability score for each answer that names you, with every point tied to quoted text | Recommendation |
| Answer Accuracy | Pass or fail on brand facts, graded against your Corporate Context (Pro: up to 15 prompts; Custom: every prompt) | Answer Accuracy |
| Deep Analysis | Why a prompt is weak: the answers, sources, competitor presence, and engine differences, with proposed actions | Prompts, then Analyze |
| Content Audit and Action Hub | Page-level fixes for the URLs Google links or skips, tracked as assigned, human-approved work | Content Audit, Action Hub |
What SolCrys does not measure on Google
SolCrys captures single-turn, non-personalized answers. It captures AI Overviews only: it does not capture AI Mode answers, single-turn or multi-turn, and it does not compute a rank-to-Overview conversion rate, track organic rankings, import Search Console data, or send alerts on drops. Use it next to Search Console: Search Console tells you how often you were shown; SolCrys tells you what the answer said and which sources it used.
Which SolCrys plans include Google AI Overviews
Google's AI answers are on every paid plan. Prices as listed on the SolCrys pricing page in September 2026.

| Custom | Scoped with sales | Yes | All 5 engines; caps scoped to the contract |
What tends to move visibility in Google's AI answers
AEO for Google's AI surfaces is an operating layer on top of SEO foundations, not a replacement for SEO. Google's generative AI optimization guide (May 15, 2026, updated July 10, 2026) puts it plainly: optimizing for generative AI search "is optimizing for the search experience, and thus still SEO" (Google). In practice:
- Be indexable and snippet-eligible, and opted in. Check that nosnippet or restrictive max-snippet settings aren't excluding pages you want linked, and that nobody has switched on Search Console's generative AI control, a site-level opt-out from AI Overviews and AI Mode available since Aug. 31, 2026.
- Answer the query and its likely follow-ups on the page that ranks. Query fan-out runs related searches, so one page that covers the subtopics buyers ask about beats several thin ones. Don't build a page per fan-out variation; Google's spam policies count mass-produced pages like that as scaled content abuse.
- Skip AI-only tactics. Google's guide says you can ignore "chunking" content and unnecessary AI text files like llms.txt, and that there's no special schema.org markup to add. Structured data should match what's visible on the page.
- Earn mentions; don't stage them. Google's guide says seeking inauthentic mentions "isn't as helpful as it might seem," and its spam policies (clause added May 15, 2026) cover attempts to manipulate generative AI responses.
How to verify a change worked in Google's AI answers
The SolCrys loop is Measure → Diagnose → Execute → Verify. Diagnose weak prompts with Deep Analysis and Citations; execute page fixes through Content Audit and the Action Hub, where your team approves every change (SolCrys never publishes for you); verify by rerunning the same frozen prompt set on the same engines and re-auditing the page for score recovery.
Treat the before/after as an observation, not proof of cause. Google's rankings and AI answers also change on their own, so compare several runs and read the Search Console impressions trend alongside.

FAQ
What is a Google AI Overviews tracker?
A tool that runs a fixed set of buyer queries through Google Search on a schedule and records whether an AI Overview appears, whether it names your brand, and which pages it links. Because Search Console reports only impressions for AI features, a tracker is how you see what the answer says about you and which sources Google used.
How do AI Overviews relate to organic SEO rank?
Closely, but not one to one. Google says its AI features are rooted in its core ranking and quality systems, and a page must be indexed and snippet-eligible to appear as a supporting link. Query fan-out also pulls pages that rank for related subtopics. Ranking isn't the same as being linked, and being linked isn't the same as being named or recommended.
What's the difference between AI Overviews and AI Mode?
AI Overviews is the AI summary Google shows automatically at the top of some results pages. AI Mode is the conversational mode for follow-up questions; since May 2026, a follow-up asked from an AI Overview flows into AI Mode on desktop and mobile. Both run on the same Search foundations. A single-turn tracker captures the Overview for each query, not the full AI Mode conversation.
Is the SolCrys free workspace on Google AI Overviews?
No. The free workspace tracks ChatGPT only: 10 prompts and 1 content audit, with email verification and no credit card. Google AI Overviews is on Starter ($99/mo, with ChatGPT and Gemini), Pro ($399/mo, any 4 of 5 engines), and Custom (all 5).
Can Search Console show my AI Overviews performance?
Only partly. Search Console's generative AI performance report, available for all sites since Aug. 31, 2026, shows impressions for AI Overviews and AI Mode, with no clicks, CTR, or queries. GA4's AI Assistant channel excludes AI Overviews and AI Mode. Neither shows what the answer said about you.
