Writing your Corporate Context

A working structure for the document, and the test for whether each line earns its place.

A structure that works

There is no required schema, but the documents that produce good grading tend to share a shape. Start with identity and disambiguation, then capability, then commercial facts, then the competitive frame, then proof.

Disambiguation deserves more attention than it usually gets. If any company, product, or common phrase shares your name, say so explicitly and say what you are not. Engines conflate similar names constantly, and a single clarifying sentence in your context is the cheapest fix available for a whole class of wrong answers.

  • Identity — legal name, product names, what category you are in, what you are commonly confused with
  • Capability — what the product actually does, stated concretely enough to be checked
  • Commercial — pricing structure, tiers, what is free, how someone starts
  • Competitive — the alternatives buyers actually name, and where you genuinely differ
  • Proof — claims you can substantiate, with the substantiation

The test for every line

For each sentence, ask: if an answer engine repeated this to a buyer, could I mark it true or false? If the answer is no, the sentence is positioning, not context. Move it to your website and take it out of here.

The second test: is this still true? Context documents rot faster than anything else in marketing because pricing changes, tiers get renamed, features ship and get retired. A context document that says something you retired is worse than one that says nothing, because it will actively teach the wrong fact and you will grade answers against a standard that is itself wrong.

Length is not the goal, coverage is

A long document is not a good document. What matters is whether it covers the topics buyers actually ask about. The fastest way to find the gaps is to look at the questions in your own sales calls, then check whether your context answers each one.

You will come back to this. After Module 4 you will have real evidence about which topics engines get wrong about you, and the first fix for many of them is a missing paragraph here.

Where this lives in SolCrys

  • Open your organization settings and find the Corporate Context editor.
  • Write in markdown. Headings help — the structure is read, not just the prose.
  • Save. Version history records the change, so you can revert if a rewrite makes grading worse.

Lab: Write the first version

Needs a free SolCrys account (no credit card). No quota consumed.

  1. Write a first Corporate Context covering the five areas above. Aim for something you could hand to a new hire on day one.
  2. Apply the falsifiability test to every sentence and cut what fails.
  3. Add one explicit disambiguation sentence, even if you think nothing shares your name.
  4. Save it. It does not need to be finished — you will revise it in Module 4 with real evidence.

This is the highest-leverage thirty minutes in the course. Everything downstream reads from this document.

Check yourself

  • Which sentences in your draft would you be unable to grade as true or false?
  • Does your context state what you are not, and what you are commonly confused with?
  • Is every commercial fact in it — pricing, tiers, what is free — currently accurate?
